We can start the day at the Changing of the Guard Ceremony and march with the Queens Guards towards Buckingham Palace for a bit of pomp and pageantry and hop between St James' Palace, Buckingham Palace and the Wellington Barracks - Your Blue Badge Guide, Danielle will ensure you are in the right place at the right time. We will attend the Changing of the Guard Ceremony which takes place every day throughout the Summer period and your Blue Badge Guide will be able to pick the best spots so that you are able to take great pictures.
During the Summer months, you can opt to visit Buckingham Palace, the Queen’s London home and see the 19 spectacular State Rooms which are open to the public.
The Royal Mews, where the Queen houses her carriages and horses is a wonderful addition to any Royal Tour and highlights include the stunning Gold State Coach which has been used at every Coronation since 1821.
A stroll down the Mall will take us past Clarence House, originally built for William IV, later home of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and now houses the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall. Tours of Clarence House can be booked in advance during the month of August.
From here we’ll look at St James’s Palace which was originally built for Henry VIII in the 1530s and we’ll cross St James’s Park which he created for deer hunting during that same period. We’ll take a look at the pelicans which were first placed here as part of James I’s zoo in the 1660s.
From here we can see Horse Guards Parade which once upon a time formed part of a jousting yard when Whitehall Palace stood here but today is used for Royal Parades. A quick look at the Queen’s mounted Life Guards before walking down Whitehall.
The grand finale is a tour of Westminster Abbey, which has hosted 39 coronations, many Royal Weddings and where so many of our Monarchs, Poets, scientists, political figures and many more have been buried or commemorated.
